Multi-protocol talent: Zone 2 CPU for IS1+ Remote I/O

The new Zone 2 CPU and power modules for the Remote IS1+ I/O system support PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP

R. STAHL is expanding IS1+, the leading Remote I/O system for hazardous areas, to include new CPU and power modules for installation in Zone 2. As a standard, the CPU module supports the Ethernet-based communication protocols PROFINET, Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP as well as Fieldbus PROFIBUS DP, each including HART transmission and FDT/DTM support. Users can set up the required protocol themselves and thus reduce storage for systems with different automation systems. The multi-protocol-compatibility supports flexible migration and thus simplifies modernisation. These modules can, for example, support the continued operation of a PROFIBUS DP installation with a subsequent switch of the CPU to PROFINET, without the need for any hardware replacements.

As a standard, communication for all protocols takes place via copper cable. In addition, media converters and switches with Zone 2 approval are available to establish fibre optic networks with a reach of up to 30 km. Both the new CPU and the power module feature the intelligent diagnosis function for active maintenance that is usual for IS1+. If maintenance is required, this is detected up to twelve months in advance, indicated locally a blue LED and reported to higher-ranking systems with a message based on NAMUR NE107.

The new models are suitable for an expanded temperature range from -40 °C to +75 °C, mounted horizontally or vertically. Under moderate operating conditions they will typically achieve a system operating time of over 15 years. The new 9442 CPU and the 9445 power module with 9496 base supplement the comprehensive range of IS1+ I/O modules for intrinsically safe and non-intrinsically safe or even pneumatic field signals.
